The South Carolina Coastal residence, also known as the Low Country Style, is typically a home raised above an identifiable base flood elevation. This style is really another name for the NeoClassical style. Features of this style include:
- classical Roman column/entablature proportions
- angled bays
- tall windows
- symmetrical floor plans
This style (and the Federal Style) often were employed in the design of three story homes of the period two decades before and after 1800. Entry doors were often embellished with elliptical transoms as well as sidelights.
